California Wedding!

Wedding planning kept me busy the past several months, and got in the way of blogging!  While planning a wedding in San Juan Capistrano from 5,000 miles away was stressful, it wasn't as stressful as it could have been thanks to all our amazing vendors!  Chris and I were in SoCal for 3 weeks in August, and we had tasting appointments with our venue and cake baker, took engagement photos with our photographer, and met with our florist, and I had all of my wedding dress alterations done within a couple weeks!  We bought a lot of our decorations during this time too, and left them all at my parents' house ready to be looked at again months later when the big day was happening.

Chris and I were already legally married in England back in April.  Navigating the immigration process regardless of being in the UK or USA is a nightmare, and marriage allowed us to live in the same place and I could work.  I'm so thankful for our family and friends who supported us in this, as well as supported us in having a traditional wedding months later in California and treated it like the real deal.  Both weddings were incredibly special and perfect to us, and now we get to celebrate having two anniversaries!

The hardest part for me was being away from my friends and family during our engagement and wedding planning, and feeling like I was missing out on the traditional engagement celebration, wedding shower, or bachelorette with my friends and family.  I am incredibly thankful for Erin and Heather who planned a mini bachelorette celebration two days before the wedding for me.  I was spoiled with a spa day, dinner and drinks out, games, and gifts with them and fantastic friends.  It was perfect!

Chris and I were only in California for two weeks, and they were jam packed with family time, Christmas celebrations, sunshine, warm winter weather, beach walks, and wedding craziness.  Those two weeks were amazing!  Chris's parents and brother's family were visiting, and my cousins and their families were in town, so our Christmas Eve was the biggest one we've had in years, and really special to have both of our families together.

Chris and my biggest desire was for this wedding celebration to reflect us and our unique story, and celebrate both of our cultures as well as our shared values.  It meant a lot to me to have my family, friends, and so many people who had been in my life since I was a little girl there to be part of our day.  I'm very thankful to my parents for helping us have this celebration.  The day was perfect for us both, but it went by incredibly fast.  After, the post-wedding blues hit, and I think because so many people were there from out of town and we also live far away, it sank in quickly that it was time we wouldn't get to share with those people again in the near future.  I am SO thankful for each and every person who came, and I'm sorry if I didn't get to talk more and catch up.  We felt everyone's love and support for us, and we really are so grateful and blessed to have the best people in our lives.
